About me
I am British, from the London area and have lived in Ciudad Real since 2002.
I´ve always loved languages as I see them as a kind of puzzle to be solved.
This dates back to my teenage years when I became keen on learning Spanish. That was a time before cheap flights, when the only way to reach Spain was by car, taking an eternity to cross France. In those days, it was a far-off and exotic country and I was mesmerised by the culture, climate, people and its cusine.
In 2002 I moved here and having spent several years mastering Spanish, I chose translation and interpretation as a new career.
Over the years I have worked with a wide range of materials: subtitles for corporate video presentations, contracts, notarial documents, websites, reports, tasting notes, and articles on tourist trails and for the specialised journals.
Like any professional, I needed to specialise and thought of an industry which excelled in my local area: Ciudad Real. Moreover, it fitted in with my interests.
I mean wine, which is linked to a host of different fields such as history, nature, gastronomy, culture and chemistry.
Moreover, Spain and especially Castilla-La Mancha, the area where I live, is no doubt the market leader in the wine industry along with France and Italy.
However, if you want to expand your horizons you need to talk the language of your clients, whether they are English, French, German, Chinese or Japanese.
This does not just mean the written word, but also audiovisual material and interpretations.
In order to satisfy this need I obtained a diploma in interpretation in order to work in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation in the English Spanish pair.
As a result, Translate Naturally was set up, a company that provides translations of texts and audiovisual material (subtitles) and interpreting for companies targeting international clients.
I work largely by translating into English, but due to the demands of the market, I also offer German and French to cater for the large markets in France and Germany.
